What are binary options
How they work, why they are so popular, and what's the catch
Definition in simple terms
A binary option is a financial instrument with two outcomes. Binary = two. You predict where the price will go within a chosen timeframe: • Correct prediction → you get a fixed profit (usually 80-92%) • Incorrect prediction → you lose the investment amount No complex calculations, leverage, or margin calls. Just one question: will the price in N minutes be HIGHER or LOWER than the current price?
Two trade types
UP (CALL)
Forecast: the price will rise. The green button. You believe that in N minutes the price will be HIGHER than the current mark.
DOWN (PUT)
Forecast: the price will fall. The red button. You believe that in N minutes the price will be LOWER than the current mark.
How profit is calculated
The payout is fixed IN ADVANCE. You know how much you will win or lose BEFORE entering the trade. Example with an 85% payout: • Trade amount $10 → WIN → you get $10 + $8.50 = $18.50 • Trade amount $10 → LOSS → you lose $10 • Trade amount $50 → WIN → you get $50 + $42.50 = $92.50 This is the key difference from Forex — in Forex, profit depends on how far the price moves. In BO, it doesn't. It is enough for the price to be at least 0.00001 higher/lower.

Expiration time
Expiration is the moment when the trade outcome is determined. Popular expiration times: • 30 seconds — ultra-scalping, almost like roulette • 1 minute — the most popular, but noisy • 3 minutes — a good balance of speed and accuracy • 5 minutes — recommended for beginners • 15-30 minutes — for medium-term strategies The shorter the expiration, the greater the randomness. The longer, the more accurate the analysis. For the strategies in our course, the optimal is: 3-5 minutes on the M1 timeframe.
The math of win-rate
The most important metric in BO is the win rate (percentage of successful trades). With an 85% payout, you need to win at least 54% of trades to break even. Break-even formula: Win rate = 100% / (100% + payout%) Example: 100 / (100 + 85) = 54.05% That is, out of 100 trades, you need to win at least 55 to remain profitable. Our strategies yield a 60-70% win rate.
